THE CAUSES, SYMPTOMS AND TREATMENT OPTIONS FOR PERIODONTAL DISEASES (PERIODONTITIS):
Periodontal disease starts with plaque on the teeth, which is a breeding ground for pathogenic bacteria. This plaque can form tartar, which also provides a habitat for bacteria, and its rough surface promotes the deposition of further plaque. The persistence of plaque and tartar is most often the result of inadequate oral hygiene and oral, dental care.
Regular and thorough brushing and tartar removal can prevent the disease.
However, in their absence, the patient’s dental status becomes worse and gingivitis develops. The symptoms of gingivitis are sensitive, swollen, red gingiva and gingival bleeding, especially when brushing. Unpleasant breath and even gingival pain may also appear. The disease is fully curable at this stage.
However, if the inflammation persists, sooner or later it is sure to spread to the surrounding areas of the tooth; the bone will degrade as a result of the inflammation. As a result, the gums often start to atrophy and recede, and pockets may form between the teeth and the gums, gingiva. If neglected for a long period of time, the tooth becomes loose, it starts to move and, in severe cases, can fall out.
